Each new lot ships with sign-by-sign interpretation report data and is tagged with lot_category and zr_evidence so you can filter and label in your UI.

How is Lot of Basis computed?

Lot of Basis is built from Lot of Fortune and Lot of Spirit, so its compute-order depends on those two finishing first. Our service runs Fortune and Spirit, then derives Basis from their positions. If you request only Basis, we still return Fortune and Spirit alongside it so your client sees the full dependency chain.

What does lot_category mean?

lot_category is a metadata field on every lot in the response. It groups lots by theme: career, fate, loss, recognition, relationships, fortune, spirit, synthesis. Use it to filter lots in your UI or to label sections without hard-coding lot names. Lot of Honor and Lot of Exaltation share the recognition category, for example.

Can I use experimental lots in Zodiacal Releasing?

You can, but you should signal to your users which ones are experimental. Filter by zr_evidence == 'classical' for default ZR period timing. Surface experimental lots behind a toggle or label so practitioners know they're outside the classical attestation. The enum exists precisely so you don't have to maintain that list yourself.

How does the API order lot computation?

We resolve a dependency graph at request time. Fortune runs first. Spirit runs first. Then dependent lots: Basis after Fortune + Spirit, Eros and Victoria after Spirit, Nemesis after Fortune. House-based lots run in parallel once house cusps are known. Whichever lots you request, we figure out the order and return the full chain.

Which lots are tagged classical vs experimental?

Fortune, Spirit, Eros, Victoria, Nemesis, Necessity, and Courage are classical. The 7 new lots split: Basis, Exaltation, and Honor lean classical/reconstructed; Truth, Theft, Captivity, and Accusation are mostly reconstructed or experimental depending on the source. Check the zr_evidence field on each lot in the response for the exact tag.

How do I request only specific lots?

Pass active_points in your POST body with the lot names you need. Example: active_points: ['lot_of_fortune', 'lot_of_basis', 'lot_of_honor']. If you ask for Basis, we auto-include Fortune and Spirit in the dependency chain. You pay only for what you request, dependencies are free.

Where does the per-lot interpretation text live?

Per-lot, per-sign interpretation report data sits in app/services/report_data/universal/en/parts_of_*_in_signs.json. Each of the 7 new lots has its own file. The API returns interpretation text alongside the lot's sign placement, so your client gets ready-to-display copy without extra calls.

What is the difference between day and night formulas?

Day births (Sun above horizon) and night births use mirrored formulas for most lots. Fortune is ASC + Moon - Sun by day, ASC + Sun - Moon by night. Each of the 7 new lots has its own day/night switch documented in our spec doc. The API checks Sun position and picks the correct formula. You don't pass a sect flag.

How accurate are the calculations?

Positions calculate to 0.001 degree using Swiss Ephemeris. Formulas follow Paulus Alexandrinus (378 CE), Vettius Valens (2nd century), Al-Biruni (11th century), and Bonatti (13th century). For the 7 new lots we cite source documents in the spec so you can audit our work.

All 20+ lots calculate in under 100ms average response time on a single API call. Dependency resolution and per-lot interpretation lookup are part of that budget. Batch endpoints handle multiple birth charts in parallel.

How compute-order works for Lot of Basis

Lot of Basis is computed from Lot of Fortune and Lot of Spirit, so it can't run until both of those finish.

Our service resolves the dependency chain automatically: ask for Basis and we'll compute Fortune and Spirit first, then Basis, then return all three.

If you only request Basis we still return its dependencies so you can show the user the full chain.

The same pattern applies to other dependent lots (Eros and Victoria from Spirit, Nemesis from Fortune) - request what you need and we handle the order.
